If you were going to pick a career based solely on job opportunities, you might be tempted to choose “Computer Software Engineer”. Based on the latest government data, employment in this field increased almost 8 percent in 2010. There are now more software engineers than farmers in the US, and they will soon outnumber lawyers. The iPhone and iPad have nearly three-quarters of a million apps, with no immediate end in sight. New tablets and smart phones are springing up everywhere. There are a few caveats. Employment data is a bit difficult to compile anyway, perhaps more so with “App Writer” jobs. Many people who make a living in this field are self-employed, thus lacking benefits and job security (if there is such a thing anymore). How beneficial “Angry Birds” is for the long term good of society is a debate for another time.
